History

Tracing the origins and heritage of Davangere

Davangere has a rich historical background, evolving from a small village to one of Karnataka's major cities. The city grew rapidly during the British era and became known for its cotton mills, earning it the title "Manchester of Karnataka". Today, Davangere is a vibrant hub of education, textiles, and culture.

Davangere became a separate district in 1997, when it was separated from the erstwhile undivided district of Chitradurga for administration conveniences. Davangere is known for rich culinary traditions which encompass the diversity of entire Karnataka's dishes due to its geographical position in the state as its centre.
